Discussion:

It was announced yesterday that Richard B. Abbott will be the new        
Vice President - Nuclear Generation for the Nine Mile Point Nuclear      
Station.  The promotion is effective immediately. The VP-NG is           
responsible for the daily operation of Nine Mile, with both plant        
managers reporting directly to him.  Mr. Abbott is the first person to be
promoted internally to the Vice President level in many years.           
                                                                         
Mr. Abbott is currently the Unit 1 Plant Manager, was the Unit 2 Plant   
Manager during plant startup, and has held various positions in          
engineering, maintenance, and operations since he joined Nine Mile in    
1971. He is a graduate of Clarkson University.                           
                                                                         
Mr. Abbott's replacement as Unit 1 Plant Manager has not yet been named.
