Headquarters Daily Report OCTOBER 05, 1995 *************************************************************************** REPORT NEGATIVE NO INPUT ATTACHED INPUT RECEIVED RECEIVED HEADQUARTERS û REGION I û REGION II û REGION III û REGION IV û PRIORITY ATTENTION REQUIRED MORNING REPORT - REGION III OCTOBER 5, 1995 Licensee/Facility: Notification: Commonwealth Edison Co. MR Number: 3-95-0156 Zion 1 Date: 10/05/95 Zion,Illinois SRI VIA PC Dockets: 50-295 PWR/W-4-LP Subject: ZION UNIT 1 STEAM GENERATOR EDDY CURRENT REULTS Discussion: Based on preliminary eddy current results, the licensee estimated the steam generators may require installation of up to 2000 sleeves or plugs and rerolling of as many as 1000 tubes. Currently, steam generator B will require 507 sleeves or plugs and 110 rerolls (based on 66 percent of the tubes analyzed). Steam generator D will require 172 sleeves or plugs and 82 rerolls (based on 77 percent of the tubes analyzed). As a result of the many indications found to date, the licensee is performing motorized rotating pancake coil (MRPC) inspections on 20 percent of the tubes to the top of the tube sheet. Currently, of the 200 tubes inspected, no indications have been found past the 10 inch mark in the tube sheet area. Due to limited Combustion Engineering manpower and equipment availability, the licensee has begun discussions with NRR to seek technical specification amendments allowing for use of Westinghouse laser sleeving to expedite repairs. The licensee has estimated that repairs to the steam generators may extend the Unit 1 outage by as many as 40 days. Regional Action: The resident staff and DRS specialist will continue to monitor the results of further MRPC testing. Contact: L.F. MILLER, JR. (708)829-9629 _
