MR Number: 1-95-0001 Limerick 1 2 Date: 01/03/95 Philadelphia,Pennsylvania Senior Resident Inspector notified Dockets: 50-352,50-353 BWR/GE-4,BWR/GE-4 Subject: FIREARMS IDENTIFIED DURING ENTRY SEARCHES Reportable Event Number: N/A Discussion: On January 3, 1995, in two separate events, security personnel identified guns during routine search procedures for entry into the Limerick Generating Station protected area. For the first event, the gun was identified in a purse hand carried by a cleaning contractor. The person had inadvertently forgotten to remove the gun prior to reporting for work; the individual did have a valid permit for the gun. For the second event, the gun was found in a delivery truck during a vehicle search. Although the driver had signed a document indicating that no contraband or forbidden articles, including guns, were being transported on site, the person later indicated that he had not read the document, and was not aware of the policy. However, during the vehicle search, about the time the gun was located, the individual reported the gun in the truck to security personnel. This person did not have a valid permit, and he was turned over to the local police. Both persons were denied access to the plant and their respective employers were notified. Regional Action: The resident inspectors will continue to monitor licensee follow-up actions, and will notify Regional personnel of additional information as it becomes available.
