MR Number: 4-94-0047 Comanche Peak 2 Date: 05/20/94 Glen Rose,Texas INFORMATION FROM RESIDENT INSPECTOR Dockets: 50-446 PWR/W-4-LP Subject: CRACKED WELDS IN CONTAINMENT SPRAY SYSTEM (UPDATE) Reportable Event Number: 27276 Discussion: This is an update to Morning Report Number 4-94-0045 dated May 17, 1994. Two additional potentially cracked and leaking welds have been identified in the Unit 2 containment spray system. The licensee is continuing to review and evaluate data associated with system flows and vibration to determine the exact cause of the failures and the appropriate corrective actions. The plant is currently in Mode 5 and the Limiting Condition for Operation requiring containment spray operability is not applicable in this mode. The licensee reported this event as a result of the potential impact the leaking welds could have on the ability of the system to fulfill it's safety function. To clarify the event report (#27276) regarding this issue, all identified through-wall cracks were on the Unit 2 containment spray system vice the containment system. Regional Action: The resident inspectors are monitoring the licensee's activities and the licensee's corrective actions will be evaluated prior to Mode 4 entry. Contact: Terry Reis (817)860-8185
