For Brisbane: Dana Dillworth For Brisbane: Dana Dillworth | October 31, 2001 | SFBG News If Measure I passes, Brisbane will become San Francisco's partner in operating a municipal utility district. The small city has a history of standing up to utility monopolies and needs a strong voice for public power on the city council. That's why we're endorsing environmental activist Dana Dillworth for Brisbane City Council. Dillworth is the only one of six candidates for three open seats who supports Measure I. She has been active in the MUD campaign from the start and has put considerable energy into promoting the plan in Brisbane. She is also opposed to creating a redevelopment area in downtown Brisbane and opposes the proposed water and sewer rate increase that would hike local rates as much as 200 percent. A majority of the current Brisbane City Council opposes the MUD, and since Mayor Clarke Conway, a MUD supporter, is leaving office, there isn't much chance that the balance of power will change. But Dillworth will be a needed voice for the environment and public power, and we're pleased to endorse her. [http://www.sfbg.com]
